Privacy Policy
Effective Date: April 6, 2026
FallGuard is designed with your privacy in mind. We collect only the minimum data necessary to deliver fall detection alerts to your family. We do not sell your data, and we do not use advertising or analytics trackers.
1. Overview
FallGuard ("the App") is an Apple Watch and iPhone application developed by Tim Jones ("we," "us," or "our"). The App detects falls and other safety events on Apple Watch and sends instant notifications to designated family members or caregivers. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, and your rights regarding that data.
2. Information We Collect
FallGuard collects the following categories of data, all of which are used solely for the purpose of delivering safety alerts:
Health and Motion Data
- Heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood oxygen saturation (via Apple HealthKit)
- Step count and motion activity (via Apple CoreMotion)
- Fall detection events (via Apple CoreMotion Fall Detection)
- Water submersion events on supported devices (via Apple CoreMotion)
Location Data
- GPS coordinates are captured only at the moment a safety event (fall, submersion, or inactivity alert) occurs, so that your emergency contacts can see where you are
Personal Information
- Wearer name (a display name you choose during setup)
- Emergency contact names, phone numbers, and email addresses (up to 3 contacts you provide)
- Caregiver name and email address (entered in the companion iPhone app)
Device Information
- Apple Watch model name and device identifier
- Push notification token (for delivering alerts via Apple Push Notification service)
- Battery level and charging state
3. How We Use Your Data
All data collected by FallGuard is used exclusively for delivering safety alerts and monitoring features:
- Fall, submersion, and inactivity events trigger push notifications to your designated emergency contacts, including your location at the time of the event
- Health vitals (heart rate, respiratory rate, blood oxygen) are summarized periodically and shared with your caregiver so they can monitor your wellbeing
- Battery status is monitored so your caregiver is notified if the watch battery is critically low
- Your emergency contact information is included in alert notifications so recipients can reach you or emergency services
4. Data Transmission and Storage
When a safety event occurs, alert data is transmitted over HTTPS to our secure server hosted on Google Cloud Run (located in the United States). The server processes the alert and delivers push notifications to your registered emergency contacts. We retain alert data only as long as necessary to deliver notifications and maintain alert history within the app.
Your emergency contact information and preferences are stored locally on your Apple Watch and iPhone using secure on-device storage. Family pairing codes are generated and stored on our server to link wearer devices with caregiver devices.
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes. Your data is shared only in the following circumstances:
- Emergency contacts and caregivers: Alert notifications containing event type, location, timestamp, and health data are sent to the contacts you designate
- Apple Push Notification service (APNs): We use Apple's push notification infrastructure to deliver alerts to caregiver devices
- Legal requirements: We may disclose data if required by law or in response to valid legal process
6. HealthKit Data
FallGuard accesses Apple HealthKit to read heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood oxygen data. In accordance with Apple's HealthKit guidelines:
- HealthKit data is never used for advertising or marketing
- HealthKit data is not sold to data brokers or any third party
- HealthKit data is shared only with your designated caregivers for the sole purpose of health monitoring as part of the App's core functionality
- You can revoke HealthKit access at any time through your Apple Watch or iPhone Settings
7. Your Rights and Choices
You have control over your data at all times:
- Revoke permissions: You can disable location, health, or notification access in your device Settings at any time
- Delete your data: Uninstalling FallGuard removes all locally stored data. To request deletion of server-side data (alert history and device registration), contact us at the email below
- Modify contacts: You can add, edit, or remove emergency contacts at any time within the App
8. Children's Privacy
FallGuard is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
9. Security
We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including HTTPS encryption for all data in transit and secure on-device storage. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Effective Date" at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
